Thanks again to Breeders for sealing the deal on a magical eve at the Greek! As our buddy Dave's saying goes; it was a "golden grahams" kind of a night, not often that you get to play with your heroes. Speaking of which, we've got three letters for you: ESG. Their record A Bronx Tale was re-released right around the time YYYs were forming (danced to it in front of a mirror!) it was the single most influential record for us at the very start, even though we had no bass player! BANG off our first ep was an attempt to emulate the sassafrass and aloof cool of ESGs leading ladies, can't touch it! YYYs & ESG at RADIO CITY can't frigging wait. See you there!!

So tough calling this one guys! There was much deliberation and many near misses! In the end it was a draw between Daniel's thrasheresque psychobilly logo and Anel's clean and clever portrait Y illustrations. Can't wait to rock'em out!

Thanks again to all the participants, we hope to showcase the submissions (it would be a crying shame not to!) on our brand spanking new website that is currently being developed. In the meantime you might see nods to your designs sprinkled here and there in our YYY universe!

LOCATION: AUDIO VISUAL ARTS (AVA) - 34 East 1st St., New York, New York 10003

HOURS: Wednesday –Sunday, 12 –7pm

AVA is pleased to announce the opening of The Visitors Must Be Amused by New York–based costume and fashion designer Christian Joy. Sitting amid a sea of unwanted scraps and left-over material from past projects, Joy decided to dispose of the past 8 or 9 years of excess to concentrate on wildly diverse design concepts surrounding the female being.

Adding another component to this exhibition, the artist’s friends and family were invited to present her with a written description of a female being. She then designed costumes to represent each being, gave the costumes to her friends, and had them incorporate the costume into a photograph or creation of their own. The result of it all is found in The Visitors Must Be Amused.

Celebrated for her originality and boldness, Joy has been working as a self-sustained costume and fashion designer for the past 9 years in New York City. In Spring 2007, her work was invited to appear in a group show at the prestigious Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Her designs have been featured in the New York Times, Fader, Nylon, Dazed & Confused, Spin, Elle, and TIME among other International Publications. This is Christian Joy’s first solo exhibition.

All costumes, in addition to the contributing artists works, will be on display at AVA.

Contributing artists include: Jason Grisell, Karen O, Nick Zinner, Aliya Naumoff, Walter Sassard, Connie Hultquist, Marci Leiseth and Eduardo Juarez, and Tina Schula.

There is no beating the bit of news sweeping the nation at the moment but YYYs have a bit of news of our own to share. NEW RECORD? NEW RECORD!! NEW RECORD IS GETTING CLOSER TO BEING DONE DONE DONE! You still won't be hearing it until 2009 but damn are we close to finishing it and only after a year of writing and recording! Will it sound kind of like Show Your Bones? No, been there done that. What about IS IS? Is that more of the direction it's going in? Absolutely not, it sounds VERY different from last year's EP. Did we go back to our roots and write something closer to Fever to Tell? No looking back now silly, just full speed ahead. WHAT DOES IT SOUND LIKE?? Not much like anything you've heard from us before- DOES IT SOUND LIKE THE YEAH YEAH YEAHS??? YOU BET YOU'RE SWEET ASS IT DOES. Phew, can't wait. We can hardly wait ourselves, we miss all of you and we've been working extra hard on this one with the intention to make you as happy as possible. Just wanted to drop a line to let you in on how quickly we're approaching the finishing line and to GET PSYYYYYYYYYYYYCHED.

COOKING IN THE KITCHEN

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been hopscotching down the road less traveled- from a barn in the Northeast to a ranch in the Southwest on our journey for the next sound. Why go RURAL? We're not yet sure ourselves, but one thing the city don't have that the country got is SPACE and there has been plenty of spacing out in the studio as of late.

KITTEN FACTOR

Fuzzy soft muses aka kittens have played a major role in the writing process of YYYs current and past records. Show Your Bones was written in Sam Spiegel's home studio amidst the birth of a litter of kittens, little gold lions scrambling around. Amazingly therapeutic, nothing turns a frown upside down (there are many frowns in the record writing process) as a purring kitten in your lap. Alas our favorite kitten of all beloved SQUEAKER arrived just in time for record three! Abandoned by his mother, we've watched him grow before our very eyes from a blind and helpless little thing into a frisky and fierce little beauty- much like the tunes we're writing. Go figure.

We have a wet and wild feeling about 2008 and we're not kidding. YYYs are currently writing and recording another record. A chunk of December was spent on a musical farm in Mass throwing cow dung at each other, making music makes us do strange things. Holidays brought adventures and performances into the YYY foreground. Nick defected to Mexico where he swam with dolphins, made friends with bats in caves with lakes, got into fights with teenage hotel managers, and climbed pyramids. Brian froze his balls off in Brooklyn. Karen went backpacking in Europe, it's something mostly young broke students do but with the dollar so weak it was still expensive.

On a work front Brian has been ringing in both sides of this New Year with music and friends, performing with Matt Welch's BPO (http://profile.myspace.com/matthewtobinwelch), Jeremiah Lockwood's the Sway Machinery (http://www.swaymachinery.com), and Mike Pride's Drummer's Corpse (http://www.myspace.com/snugglestencil). Also, he's been at work on a project of solo recordings he's calling, for now, "drums and drones" which are inspired by La Monte Young's Dream House (http://melafoundation.org). Outside of music, Brians' practicing Ashtanga Yoga (http://ayri.org/) and is excited about where that's taking him. But, most of all, looking forward to New Music in this New Year with YYYs!!! Nick had solo photo show in Tokyo, remixes coming out nowish for celebration, hives, and manson. He's working on another photo book, LOOOKOUT for his fashion photo in the new Vice and a bunch of other photos in the Vice photo book. Karen is piddling around on various top secret projects that are getting little attention now that the next record is on its way. She just finished co-directing a low budget music video for the Tiny Masters of Today. Other than that she has been obsessing over various television series that she received as x-mas presents, her favorite being the UK's own Mighty Boosh http://themightyboosh.com/.

We've brought back with us the sounds and smells of China's burgeoning new rock scene- bands like Re-Tros and Queen Sea Big Shark, New Pants and P.K.14 (among many others!!) They f***ed us up! We are about to be reunited in NYC for the rest of March, working on a savory project that we hope all of you will dig into eventually, second helpings advised- you'll hear more from us very very soon in regards to this...Brian has been drumming up multiple performances in Brooklyn he has no performance anxiety, he go all night, he go boom. Nick is bouncing around the globe and when I say "globe" I mean the 5 boroughs! Last I heard from him he was eating something really crunchy on the other side of the phone. I'm getting over a cold that has taken my voice away, such a relief, I use that thing too much. Just wanted to tip y'all off on my favorite new records, "Nine Time That Same Song" by Love is All, I know it's said often but I can't remember the last time I've listened to a Record over again and then over again and then again again. Check them out if you're a curious person with "needs". The other is "Cryptograms" by Deerhunter, mine ears have heard the glory of Bradford COX, not too badlookin' these guys either. In fact they are good lookin, yeah, go look'em up!

To all the fans who submitted videos but don't see themselves in the video:
WE LOVE YOU JUST AS MUCH AS THOSE YOU SEE IN THE VIDEO.
Out of just under a hundred submissions we ended up using 25. Inevitably not
all could be spliced into a 4 minute music clip. If you don't see yourselves
it could be because of the following reasons:
1) The most common problem: The technical quality (ie: lighting or lack
there of) we can't see you.
2) Wrong formats
3) Confusion and clutter by trying to feature everyone.

IT DOES NOT HAVE TO DO WITH YOUR PERFORMANCES, THEY ALL RULED.
Disappointing it must be, nevertheless please don't feel rejection because
it's not like that yo! We will be sending all of you who participated a
"token of appreciation" which you can expect to receive after we get back
from tour.

As you may be aware, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs playing slot has been swapped with Feeder at Reading and Leeds festivals.

This means that we are now playing Reading on Friday 25th August and Leeds on Saturday 26th August. If you have purchased a day ticket to see us play which now turns out to be for the wrong day, please contact your point of purchase immediately and they should be able to swap it for the correct day. It is really important that you do this fast to ensure that you get a ticket for the date that you want - please don't wait to do this!
